ORIGINAL GREEK UNITED NATIONS KOREAN WAR SERVICE MEDAL

Rare Greek United Nations Medal. Features 35mm wide circular bronze medal with claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with a map of the world within a laurel wreath; the reverse inscribed ‘ΔΙ’ ΥΠΗΡΕΣΙΑΣ ΠΡΟΣ ΠΡΟΑΠΙΣΙΝ ΤΩΝ ΑΡΧΩΝ ΤΟΥ ΚΑΤΑΣΤΑΤΙΚΟΥ ΧΑΡΤΟΥ ΤΩΝ ΗΝΩΜΕΝΩΝ ΕΘΝΩΝ’ (For Service in Defence of the Principles of the Charter of the United Nations); on original ribbon mounted for wear with ‘ΚΟΡΕΑ’ (Korea) bar.

The medal was established by the United Nations on 12 December 1950, the first international award of its kind, to be awarded to the members of the multi-national forces who participated in the Korean War between 27 June 1950 and 27 July 1954. The Greek contingent numbered 1,263 men and the medal is thus rare.
