Offered is a near mint example of an 1831 pattern, Queen Victoria era, General Officer’s Mameluke Sword. The sword features a twin ‘p’ shaped ivory grips, with stylised gilt patterns on both sides of the grip spine, with gilded floral grip studs. A gilt & carmine twisted bullion knot is tied to the insert hole to pommel. The detail on the stylised and decorated gilded brass cross guards is still very evident, with the round finials, scroll work & General’s sword & baton in wreath motif to both sides. The 77 cm long slightly curved blade has the royal crown in sunburst, VR royal cypher & elaborate floral design etchings, running 3/4 down the length of both sides of the blade. The forte is etched for the maker W. Buckmaster & Co. London. The blade spine is engraved ‘Warranted & Proved’. The swords slides neatly into the all brass sheath, with star shaped embossed ring mounts. The scabbard is in very good condition, with one small dent to drag. A truly fantastic condition piece, as worn by a General Officer of the British Army during the last 25 year period of the reign of Queen Victoria. Just imagine this stunning piece in your own collection? Overall length: 92cm.
