East & Central Africa Medal 1897 – 1899, one campaign clasp ‘1898’, 36 mm wide circular silver medal on claw and ribbon bar suspension; the face with the Jubilee crowned bust of Queen Victoria facing left, circumscribed ‘VICTORIA REGINA ET IMPERATRIX’ (Victoria Queen and Empress); the reverse with an image of Britannia standing and facing right, holding a trident and palm branch, behind her is a lion and the rising sun. The inscription on the reverse is “EAST & CENTRAL AFRICA”. Correctly engraved named to 1523 PTE AMIN KHAN. 27/BOM:INF:. Comes with a length of the original ribbon.
163 members of the 27th Bombay Infantry were awarded the 1898 clasp to the Central & East Africa Medal, who operated under Major W. Quentin for operations against the Ogaden Somalis under Sultan Ahmed Nin Marghan, who were in Rebellion.
