1793-1848 Naval General Service Medal to Lieutenant General Edward Hungerford Delaval Elers Napier. The N.G.S.M. retains the campaign bar ‘SYRIA’ and is named in engraved capitals to: E. NAPIER. LIEU: COL: The medal is confirmed ON THE NGSM roll & Turkish Awards of the ‘British Land Forces’, showing Napier was also entitled to the Turkish Sultan’s Gold Medal (not included). This medal is officially noted on the roll as a duplicate ‘made up’, which would have been a period replacement for his original. Nonetheless, this is a rare medal to a historical figure in the British Army.
