An enamelled 25th Light Horse cap badge belonging to Lieutenant John Harrison. The 25th L.H. badge is K. G. Luke marked and come with a Ceylon Planters Rifles, Royal Australian Engineers & Rising Sun hat badge. Badges are mounted (with their lugs present) onto a leather sketching bag. 3 sets of discharge papers show John Wastell Harrison, a native of Claremont, Western Australia, enlisted into the Ceylon planters Rifles on the 4th September 1928, serving as a Rifleman until 18th October 1933. He served in Ceylon whilst working on a tea plantation. He returned to Western Australia and enlisted into the 25th Light Horse Machine Gun Regiment in April 1939, serving initially as a Trooper, quickly rising to the rank of Warrant Officer Class 2 by the time of his discharge to the regular forces year & 92 days later. He went onto serve as an officer with the Royal Australian Engineers, discharging in April 1945. A good service time remembrance piece, with the ultra-rare enamelled 25th L.H. badge, generally being a unit sanction ‘officer’s’ version, being jeweller enamelled in very limited numbers.
