1796 Pattern Light Infantry Officer’s Sword & Scabbard. Fire gilded fittings, including urn shaped pommel, ‘D’ shaped hilt, with partially folding half circle langets, with floral designs to underside and to end of quillon. The wire strung grip is in excellent condition. The 81cm long straight blade shows etchings of trophies of arms, laurels, Royal cypher & crown for King George III, along with motto ‘FOR MY COUNTRY & KING’, with much of the original blue and gilt finish to both sides, the remainder of the blade showing light wear & small areas of light pitting, mainly to to lower edge, but very good overall. The leather & brass scabbard retains both suspension rings with leather crazing and a very old/period leather repair to lower end. A 1970’s catalogue number is stuck to the rear of the leather scabbard, with the maker dedication ‘Goldney’s, late Neild, St. James’s Strt Sword Cutler to H.R.H. the Prince of Wales’ A good rare sword in a very desirable condition.
