Offered is an exceptionally rare, mid war produced S.A. Marine Officer’s dagger and scabbard. 2nd pattern SA dagger that has been personalised with hand engraved details to the top and lower gilt cross guards, being repeated to reverse. Hardwood grip fits the crossguards beautifully and both eagle and roundel both sit firmly in the grip. The reverse shows maker mark for Klittermann & Moog, Solingen along with the RZM stamp and stylised M 7/29 - 1942. Spear endpoint has been slightly rounded, most likely a personal touch as per the overall quality of the dagger. Scabbard still retains 100% of its black enamel finish and personalised with hand engraved details on the top and lower gilt chape and locket. The suspension ring retains the leather hanger.
The original owner of this dagger was presented this by his parents on him becoming an officer in the S.A. on the 19th November 1942, as shown by the inclusion of the handwritten card which came with this dagger. Overall, a very beautiful example of a first pattern SA dagger in stunning condition made even better with personal engraving, hard to beat.
