Description
South Australian Imperial Bushmen Boer War & WW1 brothers Medals to the Lennon Family. Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899 – 1902. 4 clasps: CAPE COLONY, TRANSVAAL, WITTEBERGEN & SOUTH AFRICA 1901. Impressed named to: 204 CORPL: J. R. LENNON. SOUTH AUS: I.B. British War Medal, impressed named to 12303 MT/DVR. H. M. LENNON 2 F A.B. A.I.F. Medals come with copied service papers and a studio photo of Henry Lennon in uniform. James Richard Lennon was born in Wilpena, South Australia in 1877, enlisting as part of the 4th Contingent of the South Australian Imperial Bushmen for service in South Africa. Sailed 1st May 1900 from Port Adelaide, arriving in Port Elizabeth 9th June 1900. He served in South Africa until July 1901, in which time he helped to recapture two guns of the 28th Battery, Royal Field Artillery in the same month, with his service covering the Cape frontier, including the Transvaal & actions at Wittebergen. He returned to South Australia on the 27th July 1901, being discharged shortly thereafter. He served during the First World War with the 3rd Pioneer Battalion & 2nd & 4th Tunnelling Company from May 1917 until he discharged October 1919. He is listed as having died in December 1947. Henry Michael Lennon enlisted for service in the A.I.F. on the 1st November 1915, aged 32. He was allotted to the 2nd Field Artillery Brigade, serving as a gunner, until being accidentally injured in 1918 when he was employed as a Driver. He was discharged on the 28th October 1922.
