Boer War Queen’s & King’s South Africa Medals to Trooper Thomas Silverwood, who served with the Kaffarian Rifles & Steinaeckers Horse during the Boer War.

Queen’s South Africa Medal 1899-1901 with campaign bars CAPE COLONY,  TRANSVAAL & WITTEBERGEN impressed named 968 PTE T. SILVERWOOD. KAFFRN: RIFLES

King’s South Africa Medal 1901-1902 with date bars SOUTH AFRICA 1901 & SOUTH AFRICA 1902, impressed named 107 TPR: T. SILVERWOOD, STEINAECKER’S H.

Medals are in generally very good condition, with very light wear overall & some of the original white frosting present. Medals mounted onto a backing board. Medal rolls included for both medals, as well as a brief summary of Silverwood, as well as service summaries, medal rolls and unit summary for Steinaecker’s Horse.

Thomas Silverwoodwas born in 1871, enlisted as a Trooper in the recently raised Special Squadron of Steinaecker’s Horse in February 1902, following 20 months with the Kaffrarian Rifles and five months with the Queenstown Mounted Infantry. He gave his next of kin as his sister, Miss F. E. Silverwood, of Ridley Road, Forest Gate, London. He was discharged at Pretoria on the disbandment of his unit in July 1902. He was described as 5 1/2 foot tall, with brown eyes & brown hair.
