Boer War Queenโs & WW1 service medals to Private McMillan, who served with the 1st & 3rd Battalion, The Scots Guards during the Boer War and Army Service Corps during the First World War. Queenโs South Africa Medal with campaign bars CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE & SOUTH AFRICA 1902, correctly impressed named 3528 PTE. J. MCMILLAN, SCOTS GUARDS: British War & Victory Medals, impressed named to: m2-115233 PTE. J. Mc MILLAN. A.S.C. Medals swing mounted as worn, ribbons on first and last rather tatty & fragile. Comes with much research paperwork. John McMillan was born in Edinburgh in 1878, and attested there for the Scots Guards on 15 August 1900, having previously served in the 3rd (Militia) Battalion, Royal Scots. He served with the 1st Battalion in South Africa during the Boer War from 16 January to 4 October 1902 (rated โInefficientโ), imprisoned by C.O. 14 September 1904 (14 days) and transferred to the Army Reserve on 15 August 1907. He was discharged on 14 August 1912, after 12 yearsโ service. He subsequently served during the Great War with the Army Service Corps (Motor Transport).
