Description

Offered is a British or Australian (RAAF) Air Force issue King George V (1910-1936) officer’s Sword,numbered 9188, straight fullered plated blade, measuring 84cm marked ‘HAWKES & Co-Ltd- Sword Cutlers. 1 SAVILE ROW.LONDON-W.I.-‘ to blade ricasso. Beautifully etched with blank battle honour panels and outstretched crowned eagle to both sides of blade. The ornate guard features the George V cypher and crowned eagle within a plated pierced brass guard. Ornate backstrap and sectioned pommel, along with the wire wrapped white sharkskin grip tops off the deluxe overall impression of this most sought after sword. The gilt bullion knot is tightly wound round the gilt washed guard. The scabbard is the black leather type, with correct gilt brass suspension lockets & leather and gilt belt buckle attachment. The total length of this sword measures 98cm. This sword is the current pattern as used by the RAF and RAAF, so can be purchased and used by officer’s of the Commonwealth air force’s.
