Description

Offered is an original 1908-35 India General Service Medal.

36mm wide circular silver medal with claw and ornate scroll swivel ribbon bar with original ‘NORTH WEST FRONTIER 1930-31’ clasp; the face with the crowned head and shoulders portrait of King George V facing left in coronation robes, circumscribed ‘GEORGIUS V D G BRITT. OMN. REX ET INDIÆ IMP’ (George V by the Grace of God King of Great Britain and Emperor of India); the reverse with a view of Jamrud Fort and the entrance to the Khyber Pass, inscribed ‘INDIA’ on a plaque below with oak and laurel branches to either side; attributed on the edge to 6205 NK. MAGHA SINGH, 6 – 13 F. F. RIF.; on original ribbon.

The medal was instituted on 1 January 1909 for service in campaigns on India’s borders. The ‘North West Frontier 1930-31’ clasp was awarded for service in operations on the North West Frontier between 23 April 1930 and 22 March 1931 against the Afridis.
