Offered is a WW1 medal group to Private William Henderson, who served in France with the 8th Battalion Gordon Highlanders, until wounded with a gunshot wound to the left forearm, resulting in his discharge from the army in 1918.

William Henderson was born in January 1880 & joined the 8th Bn Gordon Highlanders on the 25/5/1915. He landed in France on the 25/11/1915 and at some stage was wounded in action with a gunshot wound to his left forearm. He was discharged on the 12/2/1918 as no longer fit for war service. He commenced drawing a pension on the 13/2/1918 due to his wounds with his home address listed as Easter Muirdeen, Kelso.
Gordon Highlanders 8th (Service) Battalion: Formed at Aberdeen in August 1914 as part of K1 and came under orders of 26th Brigade in 9th (Scottish) Division. Moved to Aldershot and in February 1915 went to Bordon. Landed at Boulogne on 10 May 1915. 7 May 1916: moved to Bethune and transferred to 44th Brigade in 15th (Scottish) Division. Four days later amalgamated with 10th Bn to form 8/10th Bn. 6 June 1918: reduced to cadre, with surplus troops going to 1/5th Bn. The cadre was disbanded on 17 August 1918.
There are various different ways in which someone could have been discharged from the army under the King’s Regulations. As per his records: King’s Regulations 392. (xvi) No longer physically fit for war service.

(i) after service overseas in the armed Forces of the Crown, on account of disablement or ill-health caused otherwise than by misconduct.
