SCARCE 1930s AUSTRALIAN TASMANIAN FRANKLIN & TASMAN ROYAL HOBART REGATTA MEDAL

Description

Offered is an original Medal commemorating the Royal Hobart Centenary Regatta, 1938. Obverse: Busts of Sir John Franklin (1786-1847) (left) and Abel JanszoonTasman (circa 1603-1659) (right) in high relief partially superimposed on a stern view of a sailing vessel (centre) with waves below. Legend on a band within a circle of raised dots. Legend: ‘TASMANIA COMMEMORATES FRANKLIN AND TASMAN.’ Reverse: Outline of a map of Tasmania with a sail and a mast with a burgee superimposed on it, on a wavy ground with sun rays (right). Legend on a band within a circle of raised dots. Legend: ‘ROYAL HOBART 1938 CENTENARY REGATTA.’ Medal is suspended on a silken red and white ribbon, with it’s original paper award packet.
