Offered is a set of medals to William Kerley who served 23^rd June 1914 – 30^th March 1940 with the Royal Navy on ships ranging from Riverboats – Battleships.

1914 – 15 Star, impressed named K.22692. W. KEARLEY. STO. 1. .R.N. BRITISH War & Victory medals impressed named K22692 W.KEARLEY. STO. R.N., comes with copies service papers & medal roll.

William Kerley was born on the 20^th May 1893 at Blandford Dorset, he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Stoker on the 23^rd June 1914. His civilian occupation was recorded as ‘ploughman’.

During the war he served on a variety of ship and shore stations including H.M.S. Hercules (dreadnaught) H.M.S. Greyhound (destroyer) H.M.S. Peyton (destroyer) H.M.S. Furious (aircraft carrier) H.M.S. Ursula (destroyer). Post war his services included H.M.S. Bee & Gnat which were ‘Large China Gunboats’ whilst station on the Yangtze.

He was sent to shore on a pension on the 9^th July 1936, but recalled 15/6/1939 as Senior Pensioner Officer before being finally discharged to shore 30/3/1940.

Also entitled to the British War Medal 1939 -45 for his WW2 service.
