BRITISH AUSTRALIAN 1876 84 SOCKET BAYONET & SCABBARD FOR MARTINI HENRY RIFLE

Offered is an original English made pattern P1876/95 spike socket bayonet with scabbard for the โ€œnewโ€ Martini Enfield in 303 round. Bayonet & scabbard features brass and steel fittings, with blackened pommel socket & working locking ring. The 54.5 cm long triangular steel blade shows the shallow โ€˜blood grooveโ€™ to the centre of each side of the blade and WD (War department) stamped (Enfield) E66 inspectors mark, being dated 96 (1896 production). The blades factory sharpened but dull edged with a good bright finish to all surfaces and standard dark pitting. Leather & brass scabbard, good fit on the blade and good stitching and shape, with round brass rivets, WD/I\ E7stamps body and brass mounts with frog button numbered 1206. Overall length: 63.5cm long. A good used example of a Zulu wars pattern bayonet, as used with the classic 1894 Martini Henry Enfield 303 rifle up into WW1.
