RARE WW1 GERMAN ARMY 98/05 MAUSER BUTCHER BAYONET & SCABBARD BY F W HOLLER
Offered is an original WW1 era German 98/05 Mauser ‘Butcher’ bayonet & scabbard. Bayonet features steel fittings overall, with waffen stamps to birds head pommel with working external release button, screw in wooden grips and metal guard & partial muzzle ring. The 36 cm long swollen steel blade shows only very light sharpening to blade edge, retaining sharpened spear point, with blade being in generally very good condition overall. Ricasso maker stamped for F. W. Holler of Solingen, with Prussian issue stamp and date for 1915 issue. Standard refinished black metal scabbard with Waffen stamp to throat, in good original shape, showing no dents. Blade fits very nicely into the scabbard. Overall length: 52cm. The bayonet was designed for use with the 7.92 mm Gewehr 98 bolt action Mauser Rifle, being one of the main service rifles of the German Army pre and post WW1.
