POST WW2 BRITISH GENERAL SERVICE MEDAL NORTHERN IRELAND SERVICE RAF GILL

Offered is an original General Service Medal 1962-2007, with clasp Northern Ireland, to Leading Aircraftsman Gill, who served there with the Royal Air Force.
General Service Medal 1962-2007, silver, 36mm circular medal with ornate scrolled ribbon suspension bar with ‘NORTHERN IRELAND’ clasp; the face with the crowned head of Queen Elizabeth II facing right, circumscribed ‘ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA F.D.’ (Elizabeth II by the Grace of God Queen Defender of the Faith); the reverse inscribed centrally ‘FOR CAMPAIGN SERVICE’, a Tudor crown above, all within an oak wreath; attributed on the edge to LAC B S GILL (K8219506) RAF. Exceptioanlly fine overall, the ribbon being mountes, as worn.
The General Service Medal was instituted in 1964 and awarded for participation in conflicts between 1962 and 2007 where a separate campaign medal was not issued.
The Northern Ireland clasp was instituted for award to personnel involved in the various operations in Northern Ireland during 'The Troubles'.The qualifying period is a minimum of 30 days' service between 14 August 1969 and 31 July 2007. The 30 days' did not have to be consecutive. Should the qualifying period be cut short due to injury or death, then the completed days are counted as sufficient for the award of this clasp.
