Features a 39mm wide circular silver medal with fixed loop for ribbon suspension; the face with the crowned cipher of King Wilhelm I (Emperor Wilhelm I of Germany); the reverse inscribed ‘KRIEGER VERDIENST’ (Warrior Merit) within a laurel wreath; age-toned; on correct ribbon.
The Medal was instituted by King Friedrich Wilhelm III in 1835 and first awarded during his visit to St. Petersburg to the Grenadier Company guarding the imperial residences. On 6 December 1872, the cipher of King Friedrich Wilhelm (‘F W III R’) was replaced with that of King Wilhelm I and on 1 December 1888, the newly acceded King and Emperor Wilhelm II amended its articles. It was awarded for merit in the face of the enemy. This example was likely awarded during World War I. A good untouched 'large type' example.
