RARE WW2 FINLAND ORDER OF THE WHITE ROSE COMMANDER GRADE NECK BADGE MEDAL
Offered is an original Finnish Order of the White Rose, Commander grade. Features a 50mm wide silver-edged white enamel cross pattée with silver gilt lions of Finland between the arms, with loop for ribbon suspension, with silver suspension ring bearing Finnish silver assay mark, non maker stamped; the face with a blue circular central medallion within a gilt ring bearing a white and gold stylised rose; the reverse plain; all enamel intact; with large suspension loop, on correct full length neck ribbon. The Order was established on 28 January 1919 to replace the Order of the Cross of Liberty and may be awarded to both military and civilian Finns and foreigners for outstanding acts benefiting Finland. It was designed by the great Finnish artist Akseli Gallen-Kallela (1865-1931). A superb very early example.
