VINTAGE PRE WW1 ERA US ARMY PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION MEDAL 1899

Description

United States Philippine Insurrection Campaign Medal (1899). The obverse has the words ‘PHILIPPINE INSURRECTION’ at the top above a palm tree, Roman lamp (left) and scales (right) and the year numeral 1898 in the exergue. The reverse depicts a spread eagle on a trophy consisting of a cannon, six rifles, four standards, an Indian shield, quiver of arrows with three spears, a Cuban machete, and Sulu kris. Below the trophy are the words ‘FOR SERVICE’. The inscription ‘UNITED STATES ARMY’ is at the upper half and thirteen five-pointed stars in the lower half. Numbered 26596 to rim and retains the wearing brooch pin.
