11 April 1945, eight Australian Z Special commandos landed on Japanese-held Muschu Island, New Guinea. Their mission was to reconnoitre the island’s defences to the approaches of Wewak Harbour.

They were compromised within hours of their landing. Nine days later, on the New Guinea mainland, the only survivor Mick Dennis made it to Allied lines after killing more than fifteen enemy.
