Robert Barker was born in 1892 at Bury, Lancashire. He enlisted with the 2/5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers and was given the service number 2368, the Battalion was formed at Bury 9/9/1914 as a home service unit. However, the Battalion and Acting Corporal Barker landed in France on the 3/5/1915 as part of the 154th Brigade 51st Division. The Battalion transferred to the 164th Brigade 55th Division 7/1/1916 and at some stage Barker transferred to the 164th Machine Gun Company (which was part of the 164th Brigade). He was wounded in the leg 24//9/1916 during the battle of the Somme. In 1917 he received the new service no 23734. Barker survived the war and discharged 2/3/1919.
