Joseph Weston Clough was born in Quorn, South Australia on the 5th September 1895. At some stage he moved to Western Australia and was passed by the selection board for the W.A.G.R. 18/7/1911 as a labourer, he was apprenticed as a fitter 27/11/1911. A newspaper article 8/11/1916 “Daily News” (Perth) was granted an exemption from military service “Joseph Weston Clough stated he was a fitters apprentice at the Government workshops. He would finish his apprenticeship on January 21. He partially supported his mother. Exemption was granted until January 25.” Clough terminated his employment with the railway 10/2/1917 and it is believed that he then served with the Australian Mercantile Navy. Post war his medals were sent to Midland Junction, Western Australia and it is believed that he would have returned to his old employment at W.A.G.R.
