Description

Offered is an original 1918 dated Sanderson made, ‘Australian Issued’ First World War 1907 pattern bayonet with scabbard.

Bayonet & scabbard features steel fittings, with ‘D’ arrow stamped pommel & working release button, lightly used condition wooden grips and metal ‘3 D arrow D’ (3rd Military District issued – Victoria & part of N.S.W.) stamped guard. The 43 cm long steel blade shows the ‘blood groove’ to the centre of each side of the blade and stamped for Sanderson (Sanderson Bros & Newbould Ltd), being dated Septemeber, 1918. The blades factory sharpened, retaining a toned finish to surface. Standard leather & metal WW2 scabbard, with round metal frog button, with very good condition leather body. Overall length: 58cm long. A good used example of a WW1 bayonet, as used with the classic Short Magazine Lee–Enfield No. 1 Mk. III service rifle, which would have been re-issued for service during the Second World War.
