Offered is an British War Medal (1914 – 18) impressed named 19954 SPR. W. J. FROST. 1-S.S. ENG. A.I.F.

William John Frost was born Tiverton, Devon, UK and was 26 years and 10 months old when he enlisted 20/6/1917, in Hawthorn, Victoria, giving his trade as an electrician. He served with 1st Signal Sqn. (Engineers), 1st Mounted Division. Returned to Australia 23/4/1919. It is noted he received his medals 21/10/1922. An interesting medal, worthy of further research given the unit's operational history, see below.

1st Signal Squadron [Anzac Mounted Division] Formed Egypt 15 March 1916 for Anzac Mounted Division as Anzac Signal Squadron. Renamed 1st Signal Squadron June 1917. Service in Egypt, Sinai, Palestine. 1st Cavalry Division Signal Squadron [British 1st Cavalry Division]Formed Australia January 1917 for British 1st Cavalry Division. Contained a New Zealand Troop, C Troop. Disbanded Iraq April 1918. Despatch riders sent to the Western Front, remaining personnel to 1st Pack Wireless Signal Squadron, serving Iraq.
