BOER WAR & WOUNDED WW1 MEDALS BADGE CALDICOTT SOUTH WALES BORDERERS

Offered is a group of 5 campaign medals to Private Arthur Caldicott, an old soldier, who initially served in the Boer War with the 2^nd Battalion South Wales Borderer's, later in India and France 1914 with the 1^st Battalion.

Arthur Caldicott was born in 1880 at Rhydfelan Pontymidd, Wales. He served in the Boer War with the 2^nd Battalion South Wales Borderers with the service number 5971. At the conclusion of the conflict, he transferred to the 1^st Battalion which was in India at the time.

It was probable that he was time expired by the out break of WW1 as his silver war badge shows an enlistment date of 11/9/1914 and the service number 14199. He landed in France 2/11/14 to join the 1^st Battalion S.W.B who were already in action. He was quickly wounded and evacuated back to England 29/12/1914. His pension papers record a gunshot wound right shoulder. Unfortunately, the war diary for December 1914 is missing. The History of the South Wales Borderer's 1914- 1918 is available.

Caldicott was transferred to the 2^nd Garrison Battalion, Royal Welch Fusiliers, with the new service number 38088, and on the 24/1/1916 was discharged due to his wounds. He was still drawing a pension for his injuries as late as 1932. He died in Pontymidd, Wales in 1934.
