Description

Offered is an original Russian medal “For the Restoration of the Black Metallurgy Enterprises of the South”.

32mm wide gilt finished brass medal, with signs of wear & staining as shown. Retains original brass pin bracket /ribbon assembly. Scarce.

Awarded from 18th May 1948, to Soviet workers of outstanding performance in restoring the Black Metallurgic Enterprises of the Soviet Union which were destroyed during the Great Patriotic War. 13 blast furnaces, 49 open furnaces, 29 finishing mills and 68 coke-oven batteries were restored to effective or outstanding production rates. Only 68,710 medals were awarded, making this a scarce issue piece.
