Description

Offered is a rare 1827 pattern Royal (Australian) Navy 1977 manufactured officer’s sword & scabbard, by Wilkinson Sword of London.

The sword features an ornate gilt brass guard bowl, with Queen’s Crown & central fouled anchor, as well as the usual naval pattern to the knuckle guard section, which retains the original gilt bullion parade knot. Gilt lion head pommel & etched lions’ mane back strap and moving folding guard. The shark skin grip is complete, with some spotting to left side, with all gilt wire wrap remaining.

83cm long, straight, unsharpened blade, shows the maker logos for Wilkinson Sword, as well as the excellent quality acid etched panels, of fouled anchor, EIIR royal cypher, tied ropes and foliage, running 2/3 the length of both blades. The blade spine is numbered 107266 (1977 manufacture). Overall a near mint condition blade.

The leather scabbard has both gilt brass lockets, with suspension rings and lower gilt brass drag, with upper throat locket retaining the folding langet clip point, which locks in place without any issues. The blackened leather body shows a couple of minor scuff points, with the leather simply needing a good polish with some black boot polish. Overall length 98cm.

Overall, this is a stunning sword, with a near perfect blade, stunning toned gilt finish and only a couple of areas of minor blemishing, when if attended to, would make this a mint condition, current pattern sword, which could easily be worn by a serving, future or former naval officer.
