Offered is a Khedives Star (1882), period impressed on reverse 2410. Y & L. (2410 Private J. Mellor, York & Lancaster Regiment) & comes with copy medal rolls and service papers.
James Mellor was born in 1862 at Mirfield, Yorkshire, a labourer by trade he enlisted into the 7th Brigade (2nd Battalion York & Lancaster Regiment) 22/2/1881 and was given the service number 2410.
He served at home and various overseas postings including: Egypt 5/8/1882 – 6/11/1882. Bermuda 17/10/1883 – 22/10/1886. Halifax 23/10/1886 – 30/9/1888. West Indies 1/10/1888 – 23/3/1889, when he bought himself out of the army for 9 pounds discharging in Newcastle, Jamaica. It is believed that he returned to Canada.
Mellor is further entitled to the Egypt Medal with clasp Tel-El-Kebir.
