PRE WW1 QUEENS SOUTH AFRICA BOER WAR MEDAL 5 CLASPS VALLANCE 7TH DRAGON GUARDS

Offered is a Queens South Africa Medal (1899 – 1902) with 5 claps CAPE COLONY, ORANGE FREE STATE, TRANSVAAL, SOUTH AFRICA 1901, SOUTH AFRICA 1902, impressed named 5288 PTE. B.J.VALLANCE.  7^TH DRAGOON GUARDS. Medal lacquered overall. Comes with a copy medal roll and the 1939 census.

There is a Benjamin John Vallance who appears in the 1939 Caterham census with his occupation listed as “Riding master” with a date of birth as 21/12/1882 it is possible that this is the same man. Benjamin John Vallance served WW1 as a 2nd Lieutenant with the R.F.A. His records are held in the N.A. and can be viewed.

The 7^th Dragoon Guards (The Princess Royal’s) did sterling work in the harsh and trying conditions of the South African War, as a cavalry unit they were invaluable in their ability to counter the Boers mobility.
