Private J.C Henderson, served in the Boer War with the 1^st City Grahamstown Volunteers (service number 819), the Transkei Mounted Rifles and Tembuland Mounted Rifle Club (service number 141).

1st City Grahamstown Volunteer: In 1899, for the S.A. War, the regiment, in conjunction with the Uitenhage Volunteer Rifles, raised four companies of M.I.

Transkei Mounted Rifles: Raised at Butterworth, Transkei, on 1st October 1894, and originally 75 strong, with a mounted band.  The establishment rose to 300 in 1899, and 200 in 1902

Tembuland Mounted Rifle Club: There are 325 names in the roll.
