Sargent Major James Bryan King was born on 17/4/1861 at Colwall, Herefordshire. An iron moulder by trade he enlisted on the 15/4/1879 with the 22nd Brigade at Worcester. 12/6/1879 posted to the 2nd Battalion Worcestershire Regiment. Promoted to Lance Corporal 22/111881, Corporal 22/4/1882, Sargent 6/12/1883.  Attended School of Military Engineering 3/8/1885 – 6/11/85. 31/1/1886 posted to the Militia (Regular Army Staff). 24/8/1886 promoted to Colour Sergeant. Discharged 31/3/1905 & died in Hendon 5/10/1935.

Meritorious Service Medal with 10-pound annuity 4/10/1932. Only 550 were awarded for this type of coinage head, this was the only award for the Worcestershire Regiment for 1932.
