The 1st Battalion Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders were deployed in October 1945 to Palestine.

Whereas in 1939 the Battalion was composed entirely of Regular officers and soldiers, now only a few of its officers and N.C.Os. were regulars and many had been posted from other Highland and Lowland units. The great majority were short-service officers and men, it is highly probable that Parrot is entitled to other service medals for WW2.

The Battalion was on duty when on 22nd July a wing of the King David Hotel was blown up. All available officers and men were collected and sent to the Hotel, some by truck and some marching, and on arrival they immediately started rescue work, often at great personal risk.

They were involved in numerous peacekeeping duties and several times came under fire and were targeted with bombs and landmines.

January 1947 the Battalion returned for a second tour which was more intensive

During the Battalions time in Palestine it lost 4 men killed, 10 wounded and 8 men died of accidents or other reasons.
