Patrick Crosbie was born on 29/8/1870 at Troqueer, Kirkcudbright (Dumfries), he was working as a labourer when he enlisted into the 2nd Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders 3/12/1890 (Service number 3856).

The Battalion was posted to India in 1891 and stationed at Dagshai. 1897 moved to Nowshera and by 1899 was at Rheniket. He took part in the campaigns on the Punjab Frontier 1897 – 98 being part of the Mohamand Field Force and Tochi Field Force.

It is possible that he was time expired and recalled to the colours for the Boer war as he served with the 1st Battalion Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders in South Africa. He arrived in time to qualify for the Queens South Africa Medal with clasps Transvaal and South Africa 1902 and unfortunately died of disease at Charlestown, 15/5/1902. The newspaper article states Phthisis = Tuberculosis.
