Francis James Dockett was born in April 1876, at Horrabridge, Devon, he emigrated to South Africa on 5/2/1898 with the ship passenger manifest listing his occupation as a painter. He enlisted into the Duke of Edinburgh's Own Volunteer Rifles (service number 1180) and unfortunately died of disease (Enteric fever) at Towns River 8/3/1900. The memorial in Exeter "Wiltshire Regiment", list the names on the memorial published by Western Times, it incorrectly records his unit as "The Duke of Edinburgh's Wiltshire Regiment".
