Offered is a Queens South African Medal (1899 – 1902) 1 clasp CAPE COLONY, impressed named 16924 GNR: T. WALSH 2ND S.D. R.G.A. Comes with copies service papers, medal rolls, District Court Martial papers and 1911 census Thomas Walsh was born at St Catherine, Dublin in 1878. A butcher by trade he enlisted with the Royal Artillery at Seaforth on the 27/10/1896 and served with 2nd Sow Division, Royal Garrison Artillery 10th Company. Promoted Bombardier 16/2/1899. Charged by district court martial 14/7/1899 for ‘striking a soldier’ and reduced to the ranks 25/7/1899. Appointed acting Bombardier 9/10/99 reverted to Gunner 13/6/1900. 9/1/1903 discharged medically unfit....

Thomas Walsh was born at St Catherine, Dublin in 1878. Served Gibraltar 18/2/1898 – 21/1/1900. South Africa 22/1/1900 – 17/7/1900. China (& Hong Kong) 18/78/1900 – 1/11/1902.

It is possible that this is the same Thomas Walsh on the 1911 census:  Working in Lewisham for James Blacklock Henderson as a man servant. Interestingly Henderson was working as a professor of Engineering at the R.N. College. 

Also entitled to the China 1900 medal.
