Corporal Walter J Scott

The Battalion as part of the 81st Brigade, 27th Division was moved to Salonika 5/12/1915.
On the 12th September 1918, B Company successfully raided the Bulgarian main position but Captain Methvin was severely wounded as he led his men to the assault and was later killed by shell fire when being carried back by his men. Lieutenant Rankine was also hit and 15 other ranks were killed, wounded and missing. Walter was wounded in this action receiving a gunshot wound to his scalp and right hand.
On the 29 September, Bulgaria signed an armistice and fighting ceased the following day.
Walter was discharged to class Z reserve 15/3/1919 and was awarded a pension 16/3/1919 for his wounds and malaria. Malaria was rife through out the Salonika campaign especially in the Struma Valley. He was discharged from the reserve 31/3/1920 and enlisted into the R.A.F. 9/9/1920 (note the initials on his R.A.F. medal W.J. Scott). His pension record address changed from Glasgow to Hut 3 R.A.F.
