Petty Officer Frederick Eames was born on the 30/12/1878 in Largashall, Sussex. A gardener by trade he enlisted into the Royal Navy as a Boy Seaman 2nd c lass 1/5/1898.

He served on a variety of H.M. ship and shore establishments including: St Vincent, Boscawen, Alexandra, Imperious, Duke of Wellington, Excellent, Benbow, Vernon, Briton, Prince George, Revenge, Illustrious.

During WW1 he served aboard H.M.S. Britannia which was part of the Grand Fleet (King Edward VII-class pre-dreadnought battleship) 6/7/1913 ? 31/7/1918. He was obviously a very lucky man, as the Britannia was torpedoed and sunk on the 9/11/1918.

Post war served aboard Excellent, Dryad and Victory. Discharged 13/6/1919 with the rank of Chief Petty officer.
