WW1 manufactured Model 98/05s sawback ‘butcher’ bayonet with scabbard. Very good steel furniture overall with correct diagonally grooved wooden grips, working release button, guard with manufacturers date and stamp for 1916 and ‘E & F HÖRSTER SOLINGEN’. Swelled bayonet blade measures 36.5cm long and features the saw back teeth. Comes with the scabbard, which shows very light age & wear overall. Overall the bayonet and scabbard measure 51.5cm long. One of the better condition pieces I have seen for a number of years. 

These are very rare to see with the sawback teeth, with most being ground down at the insistence of the German authorities after rumours spread that those soldiers who were caught by the British with these ‘sawback’ bayonets would be summarily executed.
