1914 – 15 Star, impressed named B6496 DVR. L.W TODD. 6/F.A. BDE A.I.F.; British War and Victory Medals (1914 – 18), impressed named 8442 DVR. L.W. TODD F.A.B. A.I.F. Court mounted for display, with WW1 Rouen white metal pin back broach with Australia Peace Medal 1919. Comes with copies of service records and original photograph with Souvenir silk card from France post card.

Leslie William Todd was born in Brompton, South Australia in 1891, a driver by trade, he first enlisted into the 10^th Infantry Battalion (service number 994) on the 2/9/1914, however he was discharged as ‘inefficient’ on the 8/9/1914. He re-enlisted on the 14/8/1915, making no mention of his previous service and discharge on his attestation papers. He was given the new service number B6496, (later changed to 8442) and assigned to ‘C’ Company, 2^nd Depot Battalion and subsequently the 18^th Battery, 6th Brigade as a driver.

He departed Australia 22/11/1915 landing Suez 21/12/1915 (just in time to qualify for the 14 – 15 Star). Embarked Alexandra 17/3/1916 for France landing 23/3/1916. Transferred to the 2^nd Divisional Ammunition Column 28/11/1916.

Wounded in action 26/9/1917: Gassed as a result of a German artillery gas attack, and conveyed to hospital in England. On being discharged 15/10/1917, he was posted to a training unit. 15/2/1918 re-joined the unit in France. At the conclusion of the war, he remained in England being posted to various admin units until he embarked on the 31/5/1919 landing in Adelaide 12/7/19. He was discharge on 15/9/1919. A newspaper article dated 22/11/1921 records him being charged with ‘obtaining liquor during prohibited hours’.

Perhaps his war time injuries caught up with his as he died in Hindmarch, South Australia 8/10/1925 and is buried at the local cemetery.
