The period of engagement was for 10 years after turning 18. His service number being 16168. He served on the following H.M. ship and shore bases: H.M.S. Royal William. He served during the Crimean War aboard H.M.S. Sphinx 13/7/55 – 2/5/1857. H.M.S. Conway, H.M.S. Ajax, H.M.S. Nile, H.M.S. Sans Pareil, H.M.S. Marlborough, H.M.S. Excellent, H.M.S. Barracouta, H.M.S. Danae. Coast Guard: 30/4/1872 – 22/4/1878, and discharged to Pension. He is also entitled to the Crimea Medal and Turkish Crimea Medal.
