Corporal Frederick Richard John Delbridge was born in October 1908 in St. Leonards Devon.
He served with the Military Provost Staff Corps (custody and detention centres) in Burma, and either in Java or French Indo China. He served in the Territorials post war with the new service number 5618912, whilst still with the M.P.P.S. Possibly a civilian H.M Prisons officer? He died in Devon 12/11/1964.
As the Military Provost Staff Corps is such a small unit, there is not much information available about the activities during WW2, even less on its activities in Burma. It is believed that they were responsible for Guarding Japanese military POW waiting trial or repatriation to Japan as well as running Military Correction centres (glass houses).
The clasp S.E. ASIA 1945 – 46 covers service in Dutch East Indies, but also French Indo China, both rather rare campaigns for the British serviceman to be involved in, let alone a member of the Military Provost Staff Corps.
