Rarely do you see a medal set with both naval and army service during first world war service.

Percival Parker was born on the 5/1/1890 at Knaresdale, Northland. The 1911 census records him as living in Durham and working as a miner. He enlisted into the Durham Light Infantry 3/9/1914 but enlisted into the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve 11/9/1914 and was given the service No KX.473, to which he was transferred to the Hood Battalion.

The Hood Battalion was part of the 2nd Naval Brigade R.N.D and saw service at Antwerp October 1914. Parker was discharged medically unfit 3/3/1915. Later he was called up for service 10/5/1917 (Service # M/321168) and was enlisted into the Royal Army Service Corp (he stated his previous service as 7 months with the R.N.D.) his occupation was now motor driver which would explain why he was sent to the R.A.S.C.

He was served in France 25/7/1917 – 26/8/18 & ? – 24/11/1918 working as a steam driver being demobilised 31/1/1919.

The 1939 census records him as living in Durham, a widower working for the Durham Council as a road labourer. He was also a member of the A.R.P.
