Offered is a 1914/15 Star, impressed named NO 1179 SEPOY HAMID GUL. 1/67/PUNJABIS. The medal has previously been silvered and comes with a copy of the Commonwealth War Graves Certificate.

The mortality rate amongst Turkish prisoners of war was horrific, accounts of the suffering of the 2,592 British troops captured at Kut (about 1,750 died on the march or later in the camps), and of the Indian prisoners (about 2,500 died in similar fashion) makes for grim reading.

Sepoy Gul died on the 24/7/1916, he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Basra Memorial and the Prisoner of War panel.
