Offered is a WW1 era German 84/98 bayonet with scabbard. Bayonet features steel/metal fittings overall, with single waffen issue stamp to pommel with working external release button, with screw in wooden grips and metal guard & muzzle slot. The 25 cm long blade shows the ‘blood groove’ to each side of the blade, with only factory sharpening, good spear point, with blade being in good/used condition overall with the original sawback teeth present and in sharp condition, running 2/3 along the top edge of the blade. Ricasso maker stamped Böntgen & Sabin Solingen, with trademark, waffen issue stamp to spine....

Offered is a WW1 era German 84/98 bayonet with scabbard.

The 25 cm long blade shows the ‘blood groove’ to each side of the blade, with only factory sharpening, good spear point, with blade being in good/used condition overall with the original sawback teeth present and in sharp condition, running 2/3 along the top edge of the blade. Ricasso maker stamped Böntgen & Sabin Solingen, with trademark, waffen issue stamp to spine. Standard metal scabbard with most of the protective blue/brown finish, being dent free and showing usual age wear. Overall length 40cm.
The bayonet was in service with the GEW bolt-action rifle, which was chambered for the 7.92mm Mauser cartridge and which was used as the standard service rifle by the German Wehrmacht during WW1.
