Killed in Korea Pilot Officer Andrews RAAF 77 Squadron Meteor Australian medals
For sale is a Korean War pair of medals consisting of Korea Medal, unnamed & United Nations Medal with bar KOREA, impressed named A5464 H.D. ANDREWS. They come with the original letter from the Department of Defence in relation to his medal issue. They also come with copies of newspaper articles and autopsy report. Whilst the Korea Medal is not named, I bought these direct from the family back in the late 1990’s in Perth and this is what was issued to them by the Defence Department. Pilot Officer Henry Dudley Andrews was born on 12/6/1929 in Corrigin, Western Australia. He joined the R.A.A.F. in 1947 and graduated from Point Cook with his wings in 1952. He was posted to 77 Squadron in October 1953. The squadron were in Korea at the time flying Meteor’s and had been heavily involved in the air battles with the North Koreans flying MIG’s. He was killed on 31/5/1954 when he was involved in a mid-air collision with another member of his squadron in a routine training flight.
