For sale is a genuine and rare WW1 German Army 98/05 Mauser 'sawback' butcher bayonet, scabbard & leather frog by Cito of Cologne.

Bayonet features steel fittings overall, with Waffen stamps to birds head pommel with working external release button, screw-in wooden grips and metal guard & partial muzzle ring. The 37 cm long swollen steel blade shows some field sharpening to blade edge, cleaned with some very light pitting, with blade being in generally good condition overall. The sharp sawback edge measures 27cm long and is in very good condition. Ricasso maker stamped for CITO COLN - a rare maker of the 98/05 bayonets. Refinished black enamel standard metal scabbard in very good original shape, with period dark brown leather belt frog. The blade fits very nicely into the scabbard. Overall length: 52cm.

The bayonet was designed for use with the 7.92 mm Gewehr 98 bolt action Mauser Rifle, being one of the main service rifles of the German Army pre and post-WW1.
