Killed train accident 1940 whilst urinating WW2 Canadian Memorial Cross Sgt Hyde
For sale is a Canadian Memorial Cross named A.49519 A/SGT J. HYDE. Ring suspension. It comes with extracts of service record and copy picture. Note! This is a WW1 Memorial Cross with the G.RI. cypher, it would appear to be WW1 stock that was being used up at the start of the war. Sergeant John Hyde was born in the Isle of Wight in 1913. Prewar he was living in Canada working as a labourer. He enlisted into the Kent Regiment at Chatham, Canada on 26/7/1940 being promoted to Corporal a month later and Acting Sergeant the following month. He was struck and killed by a train on 11/1/1941 at the Chatham Train Station when he and another sergeant (also killed) were urinating near a train in the shunting yard.
