SKU: WW1 BRITISH ARMY HEAVY CAVALRY ARTILLERY R.H.A PATTERN OFFICERS Category:

Description

Offered is a Edward VII era (1901-1910) Heavy Cavalry/Artillery 1821 Pattern British Army Officer’s sword, as worn by a Mounted Artillery Officer.

The sword features a wire bound fish skin grip, mounted onto an all chequered back strap and

Heavy Cavalry Officer’s Undress Hilt. The nickel finish overall is very good to outer bowl, with plating loss to inner bowl from obvious use.

The blade has battle & laurel leaf etchings running 1/2 down the length of both sides of the 85 cm straight blade. Very good etched royal arms and motto’s running along both sides of the blade, including the crowned royal cypher for Edward VII and winged lighting and ARTLLERY motto to centre. The nickel service scabbard is in excellent condition.  Overall length: 104 cm.

I believe this very unusual combination of heavy cavalry design and artillery useage might mean this sword was worn by a member of the Royal Horse Artillery. I have yet to see such a strange combination before and the presence of only the word ‘Artillery’ being etched to the blade might be another factor to support this theory. Either way, a very good conditioned sword.
